Munich-Based Technology Group Chooses WebFOCUS as its Global Front-End BI Solution for New Reporting Applications
ESCHBORN, GERMANY, 13 July 2010
Information Builders, the independent leader in operational business intelligence (BI) systems, today announced that Siemens has chosen WebFOCUS as its global front-end BI solution for new reporting applications and will add the BI platform to its list of standard platforms.
Siemens decided on Information Builders' WebFOCUS after an extensive and careful selection process. Siemens will deploy the front-end BI solution in pilot projects in an initial phase, before rolling it out across the group in a process designed to meet individual requirements.
The contract was signed after a comprehensive and detailed tendering process, which involved some of the market's leading manufacturers. Participants in the process were required to provide information on architecture, functionality, technology, licensing terms and conditions, and integration into Siemens' IT landscape. The technical capabilities of the individual providers were tested and evaluated in presentation workshops and product trials. Ultimately, Information Builders prevailed over the other major competitors in the BI field.
With WebFOCUS, Siemens is able to access its source system when creating reports. With its graphic user interface, WebFOCUS helps developers to reduce the time and costs associated with front-end development. Siemens' power analysts can make use of the business rules saved in the applications and its specialists can use WebFOCUS to create reports independently and according to their specific requirements. Operational data that changes quickly can be integrated into these reports from any data source.
"In the tendering process, the front-end BI solution WebFOCUS from Information Builders scored the highest in terms of functionality, technology, and price," explains Jürgen Strahwald, head of the Governance department at Siemens AG's Corporate Information Technology Center in Munich. "The software from Information Builders is a convincing solution. The first applications will be up and running in time for the new fiscal year in October 2010." Nathan Jagoda, country manager for Information Builders Deutschland, adds: "We consider the introduction of Information Builders as the front-end business intelligence solution for Siemens to be a trendsetting decision."
